New Issues in Quark-lepton Symmetry
نویسنده
چکیده
Two models incorporating different forms of spontaneously broken quark-lepton symmetry are discussed. Both models are constructed so that quark-lepton symmetry can be broken at as low an energy scale as phenomenology allows, thus maximising their testability. The first model uses the Pati-Salam gauge group SU(4)⊗SU(2) L ⊗SU(2) R. The main analysis presented here concerns large threshold corrections to the m b = m τ tree-level mass relation. The second model is a new and simplified theory using discrete quark-lepton symmetry which has a very economical Higgs sector and elegantly avoids a potential quark-lepton mass relation problem.

= m e to Realistic Mass Relations in Quark - Lepton Symmetric Models
In recent years a new potential symmetry of fundamental particle physics has been investigated — discrete quark-lepton symmetry. When this symmetry is implemented, however, it often leads to either of the unrealistic predictions m u = m e or m d = m e. This paper considers two possible ways models based on m d = m e can be made realistic.

The observed pattern of neutrino mixing may be the result of a 2-3( μ−τ) symmetry in the leptonic sector. We consider a two Higgs doublet model with a 2-3 symmetry in the down type quark and the charged lepton sector. The breaking of the 2-3 symmetry by the strange quark mass and the muon mass leads to FCNC in the quark sector and the charged lepton sector that are suppressed by ms mb and mμ mτ...

Based on a new approach to quark and lepton masses, where the mass spectra originate in vacuum expectation values of O(3)-flavor 1+5 (gauge singlet) scalars, a neutrino mass matrix of a new type is speculated. The mass matrix is described in terms of the up-quark and charged lepton masses, and, by assuming a special flavor basis, it can be accommodated to a nearly tribimaximal mixing without ex...
